ASTRINA’s latest release “On Top of the Clouds” is the energizing bop that we need right now. Starting with a powerful and energetic kick snare quickly followed by ASTRINA’s airy, resonating vocals then leading us through a short verse and into the rarified chorus, we start to feel lighter and the ascension begins with a high melody nicely juxtaposed by a syncopated synth underbeat, reminiscent of 80’s electronica, leading into the crescendo as ASTRINA sings “Now I’m on top of the clouds,” and so are we.
ASTRINA is an artist who can produce quality music in an assortment of different genres and styles from alt rock to electro pop. Starting out in film scoring, she launched her solo artist project in 2018. Her knowledge and skill of music composition is evident throughout her works. You may be familiar with her single “Not That Girl” from her 2020 album Between the Mirror, which has a more edgy, moody tone. Perusing her discography, you can hear the influence of her early, more classical inspirations like Ravel & Debussy as well as her more modern inspirations like Muse, The xx, AURORA, and Radiohead, whose song “There, There” she covered in a relaxed, folk-rock style...
“On Top of the Clouds” is the kind of instantly danceable song that makes me want to drive in a convertible that I don’t have, feeling the sunshine and freedom pulse through me. I want it to be my anthem for 2022:
“I’m letting gravity go, I’m done with living below / Now I’m on top of the clouds and nothing here can bring me down.”
If you are looking for the song to get you out of the usual seasonal depression, look no further than “On Top of the Clouds.”
